RE: Jeff Gannon's reviews on this site

Like many of you I am baffled why the mainstream press is so quiet about this. How many scandals have to emerge before people start to really pay attention?

I don't see how anyone can say Guckert/Gannon's privacy was invaded. He was openly advertising his services on the PUBLIC internet. How does making his own public advertising widely known constitute an invasion of his privacy?

John Aravosis wrote a fucking kick-ass post today about the whole Jeff Gannon mess (and by the way, the latest update is that "Gannon" was at a WH press conference on Feb. 28, 2003, a full month before Talon News even existed...the mystery expands...)

Here's what John has to say, and I agree 100%:

Guest Delaware Man

Well guys, if you did not already know it, the whole State of Delaware is a big small town. I don't know Mr. Gannon/Guckert but a very reliable friend of mine knows him, knew him when he lived in Delaware and is convinced the pics on the various web sites are Mr. Gannon. Not that I had much doubt. Just my two cents.

Doug, You must have slept through the 90's. That's exactly what the right did to the White House.

Talk about sowing and reaping.....

FWIW, Jeffy's escort reviews all seems to be from first time reviewers, except for one rather old one from the days when th question wasn't asked. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that escort reviews were his start in making up news (kindof like the so-called Kerry affair with an intern that his "reporting" added to the churn last year).

RE: Maureen Dowd >>>Bush's Barberin Faun<<<

February 17, 2005 http://www.rainbowflag.com/homepage/teritowe/barbfaun.jpg

OP-ED COLUMNIST

Bush's Barberini Faun

By MAUREEN DOWD

I am very impressed with James Guckert, a k a Jeff Gannon.

How often does an enterprising young man, heralded in press reports as both a reporter and a contributor to such sites as Hotmilitarystud.com,Workingboys.net, Militaryescorts .com, MilitaryescortsM4M.com and Meetlocalmen.com, get to question the president of the United States?

Who knew that a hotmilitarystud wanting to meetlocalmen could so easily get to be face2face with the commander in chief?

It's hard to believe the White House could hit rock bottom on credibility again, but it has, in a bizarre maelstrom that plays like a dark comedy. How does it credential a man with a double life and a secret past?

"Jeff Gannon" was waved into the press room nearly every day for two years as the conservative correspondent for two political Web sites operated by a wealthy Texas Republican. Scott McClellan often called on the pseudoreporter for softball questions.

Howard Kurtz reported in The Washington Post yesterday that although Mr. Guckert had denied launching the provocative Web sites - one described him as " 'military, muscular, masculine and discrete' (sic)" - a Web designer in California said "that he had designed a gay escort site for Gannon and had posted naked pictures of Gannon at the client's request."

And The Wilmington News-Journal in Delaware reported that Mr. Guckert was delinquent in $20,700 in personal income tax from 1991 to 1994.

I'm still mystified by this story. I was rejected for a White House press pass at the start of the Bush administration, but someone with an alias, a tax evasion problem and Internet pictures where he posed like the "Barberini Faun" is credentialed to cover a White House that won a second term by mining homophobia and preaching family values?

At first when I tried to complain about not getting my pass renewed, even though I'd been covering presidents and first ladies since 1986, no one called me back. Finally, when Mr. McClellan replaced Ari Fleischer, he said he'd renew the pass - after a new Secret Service background check that would last several months.

In an era when security concerns are paramount, what kind of Secret Service background check did James Guckert get so he could saunter into the West Wing every day under an assumed name while he was doing full-frontal advertising for stud services for $1,200 a weekend? He used a driver's license that said James Guckert to get into the White House, then, once inside, switched to his alter ego, asking questions as Jeff Gannon.

Mr. McClellan shrugged this off to Editor & Publisher magazine, oddly noting, "People use aliases all the time in life, from journalists to actors."

I know the F.B.I. computers don't work, but this is ridiculous. After getting gobsmacked by the louche sagas of Mr. Guckert and Bernard Kerik, the White House vetters should consider adding someone with some blogging experience.

Does the Bush team love everything military so much that even a military-stud Web site is a recommendation?

Or maybe Gannon/Guckert's willingness to shill free for the White House, even on gay issues, was endearing. One of his stories mocked John Kerry's "pro-homosexual platform" with the headline "Kerry Could Become First Gay President."

With the Bushies, if you're their friend, anything goes. If you're their critic, nothing goes. They're waging a jihad against journalists - buying them off so they'll promote administration programs, trying to put them in jail for doing their jobs and replacing them with ringers.

At last month's press conference, Jeff Gannon asked Mr. Bush how he could work with Democrats "who seem to have divorced themselves from reality." But Bush officials have divorced themselves from reality.

They flipped TV's in the West Wing and Air Force One to Fox News. They paid conservative columnists handsomely to promote administration programs. Federal agencies distributed packaged "news" video releases with faux anchors so local news outlets would run them. As CNN reported, the Pentagon produces Web sites with "news" articles intended to influence opinion abroad and at home, but you have to look hard for the disclaimer: "Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense." The agencies spent a whopping $88 million spinning reality in 2004, splurging on P.R. contracts.

Even the Nixon White House didn't do anything this creepy. It's worse than hating the press. It's an attempt to reinvent it.

RE: PROOF JEFF GANNON IS AN ESCORT!

Ok, I'm a bit late to this thread . . . here goes

>> The fact that the

>>"journalist" in question turns out to be a male escort is

>>simply an amusing twist.

>

>So what has happened to Jeff Gannon - having his private

>Internet activities researched by a hateful lynch-mob who

>disagree with his political views and being driven out of his

>job because he owns sites promoting escorting and, it seems,

>he himself is a male escort - is, to you, "an amusing twist"?

>

I don't understand how advertising oneself as an escort is a "private business".

However, I do have problems with a person writing anti gay articles on a conservative website and then making money from that same group of poeple as an escort.

>

>You then get fired, driven out of your profession, and

>thoroughly and publicly humiliated. Whenever anyone asks the

>people who did this what their justification is, they say:

>"He's a radical liberal who holds really dangerous political

>views."

As I understand the situation, Jeff Gannon's "profession" is based on a two day seminar. I would guess any of the better rated escorts on this site have much more experience in their profession than Jeff has in his. And, again as I understand the situation, Jeff was associated with a web site staff by volunteers - so, there was no job where Jeff was fired - unless you consider he was "fired" as a volunteer.

In fairness, what I'm about to write was not known when Doug wrote his message . . . but, the issue is how did someone - not associated with a news organization (which is the reason he could not get a Congressional Press Pass), who is not a person with any substantial background in journalism get a day pass for two years to attend press briefings when when a known, award winning journalist (Maureen Dowd) had her credential taken away, and had to go through a complete background check to have them reinstated.

>

>Of all places that one would think the Jeff Gannon story --

>the story being that he got driven out of his job because it

>was uncovered that he's involved in GAY ESCORTING - would be

>condemend, rather than celebrated, is on a site comprised of

>people who THEMSELVES are devotees of male escorting.

>

>And yet, here so many of you are- including escorts

>themselves(!) - celebrating the fact that his escorting has

>been "uncovered" and used to drive him out of his fucking

>job!!!

I've not met anyone on this board, or anyone associated on this board, who does not support the idea and practice of escorting. However, we all know it is still defined as an illegal activity. So, if someone is trying to get to the president, what better way than to blackmail a known escort who was within a few rows of chairs away from the president, during an era when security is involved with everything realted to the government.

This story started out as not passing the "sniff" test. As more and more facts are uncovered, it seems there's much more to this story than we have found out.

RE:Jeff Gannon's Interview by Anderson Cooper

Was just watching Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN who interviewed Jeff Gannon/James Guckert

Gannon said he used the psudeonym because Guckert is hard to pronounce, it is pronounced "gookert". He did not deny being an escort, nor did he confirm it. Said he had made mistakes in his life. Very vague as to how he got a White House press pass. Said the real story was that if someone disagrees with a reporters viewpoint it now seems permissible to invade that reporter's private life and destroy them. In a sense, he has a good point. However, my take is something just does not smell right about this all thing. I could care less that he escorted if he did but how come he got a press pass while Maureen Dowd has to go through hoops to get hers renewed.

It will be interesting to see what else unfolds from this, if anything.

RE:Jeff Gannon's Interview by Anderson Cooper

I was disappointed that Anderson wasn't tougher in his questioning. Gannon/Guckert had to be lying when he said he didn't know when he attended his first White House press briefing(it was all of 2 years ago). He obviously didn't want to answer that one since it's on video that he was there nearly 2 months before Talon News existed asking Ari Fleischer softball questions. Ari's been quoted as saying that he stopped calling on Gannon/Guckert when he found out he worked for GOPUSA because of what Ari perceived to be a blatantly partisan propaganda machine. Faster than you can say Praise Jesus, Talon News popped up with Gannon as White House bureau chief. They found the plant a "news outlet" beard.

He is HOT! I do remember seeing his website and pics years ago when I first got a computer and started websurfing and thought he was hot then.:9 and still do!
