It really is kind of amazing – especially the blame that is ignorantly placed on immigrants. As if recent arrivals to the USA or Canada are the ones out there advocating change! It’s a relatively minor shift in what is considered appropriate and polite and some folks are acting like their practices have been outlawed.

What’s with the Christian inferiority complex? Have a backbone and use whatever greeting floats your boat. Nobody is censoring you. (I’ve got the ‘CBS News Sunday Morning’ show playing in the background and Andy Griffith just gave a spiel on what a spiritual time CHRISTMAS is.) If you use a greeting that is inappropriate for the person being greeted, and they look at you like you are a moron…suck it up! Be proud of the fact that you’re a Christian dammit and don’t see any reason to be culturally sensitive to someone who is probably just an immigrant anyways.

<<What it really sounds like is nothing more than a whine that stores and businesses don't express your personal and religious feelings about this holiday the way you want them to. They're not required to; you have no right to demand that they do; and your mere irritation that they don't is incredibly petty and self-absorbed, particularly when compared to the lofty and angry victim language being used to describe this "problem".

Christians used to be fed to the lions. Sometimes religious persecution has resulted in churches being burnt and priests being tortured or whole communities being slaughtered. Or, at least there were laws prohibiting certain religions from being practiced. THAT's religious persecution.

Even though some people in this thread are talking as though there is religious persecution going on, all it really is a big whine that other people don't share their religious views and don't celebrate their religious holidays the way they want to. You have every religious freedom you could possibly want and deserve; you're just complaining becuase you want to feel persecuted.>>

here is a quote from the inside of the christmas card i received from the ayn rand institute: "christmas in america is an exuberant display of intellectual ingenuity, capitalist productivity, and the enjoyment of life." -leonard peikoff, long-time associate of any rand.

the greeting on the inside page says "merry christmas and happy new year". ***note that a mostly athiest group said "merry christmas" as opposed to the pc phrase "seasons greetings" fukamarine seems to think is preferred nowadays.

on the front of the card below a design of a christmas tree it says "let intellectual and political freedom ring"

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, of all beliefs, or non-believers - you're all americans!

>It's MY country and if I want to say MERRY CHRISTMAS, I will

>and if others don't like it, may I suggest a one-way ticket

>back to where ever you came from that is so friggin wonderful,

>you wanted to leave!

>

Isn't all this pissing and moaning and whining a bit ironic considering the holiday in question is supposed to be celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace? Look how much vitriol has been passed around over a religious holiday observance. Look at the "my group was here first" crap and the do it my way or leave sentiment. Little wondere there's so much conflict on the world scene associated with religion.

Maybe Karl Marx was wrong in saying that "religion is the opiate of the masses". These days, it seems to be the PCP of the masses.

I don't know about you guys - but I happen to like Christmas (with the exception of the rampant commercialism)

And I object very strongly to the current fashionable movement, that attempts to be politically correct, to substitute the phrase "Happy Holidays" - or "Seasons Greetings" for the good old-fashiened "MERRY CHRISTMAS"

I was brought up to say Merry Christmas and will continue to say it until my dying day. Our countries were founded by Christian peoples and as such the day celebrating the birth of Christ was known as Christmas.

I have no problem with people of other faiths coming to our countries (I,m speaking of Canada & USA here) but see no reason why we should be intimidated into giving up our right to say Merry Christmas just because their faith may not include the same beliefs.

And extending this to our schools where it is no longer permissible for students to say "Merry Christmas" to their fellow classmates or to hold a "Christmas Party" etc. is something that in my mind that should be stopped in the bud.

It's MY country and if I want to say MERRY CHRISTMAS, I will and if others don't like it, may I suggest a one-way ticket back to where ever you came from that is so friggin wonderful, you wanted to leave!

orange will be difficult to read. i used orange on the escortmale forum (ooops... wasn't supposed to mention that, was i?) and it wasn't easy to read. orange font looks a bit fuzzy. you might try burntumber, though, flower. for some unknown reason, it shows up as a purplish colour.

Fashion or racticality? that is the question :-)

Well Ethan has a point about Orange being harder to read Trix--and the BurntUmber is still kinda nice and but easy to read--I'm gonna try it for a while. I even tried darkorange to see if that helped and make you, mi cher happy, and it did a trifle, but not enough. But if this doesn't work, let me know :*

Burnt Umber? hmmmm... not only is it ractical, but it's very Caravaggiesque. Ethan, Flower, I think you both are going to have to come over and help me decorate my receiving parlor someday!

Carry on, boys!
