Mr Bush is almost there, depending on which media outlet one watches. The Bush people so far have to be more upbeat at this stage. The Bush column have almost attained Florida, Ohio and New Mexico. The Kerry people will have to consider at what time their candidate will officially concede, and the Bush people can celebrate and begin their agenda for a second term in the White House.

I find the only feeling I can muster for a gay supporter of George Bush is pity. I suppose I could understand someone who is gay tending toward Republicans on some issues. But supporting -- eagerly -- this administration, with its truly wretched anti-gay agenda?

That would seem to me to indicate internalized homophobia so serious as to simply warrant feeling pity for the person. That and, of course, a very serious lack of respect.

Well said. I know several gay supporters of W and do not find their reasoning for support of same cogent. Supporting this Bush administration and their attempts to enshring anti-gay discrimination in the US Constitution is just incomprensible to me for any gay citizen.

A lack of respect for both themselves and for the remainder of the community. As I've repeatedly said here and elsewhere, this is tough for me to understand.

Why is your pity limited to gay supporters of GWB? Why should they be pitied anymore than all the other clueless American voters, who despite all the evidence, have once again elected GWB, this time with a majority of the popular vote?

The outcome shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, given the fact that once again, the Democrats ran a leftist liberal, especially a Northern one, who had no chance to carry even one Southern or border state. A few southern states/border states wins, and Kerry would be celebrating right now.

Face the facts, it is the far right American Christian fanatics waging a Holy War against the fanatical Islamics. What better leader, could all these people have than GWB? After all, aren't they just following the script of Revelations?

Save your pity for the world, and don't narrow it's scope to the gay issues.

It's tough for me to understand, too. This Kippy guy gives Republicans a bad name, and I hope he isn't gay.

In the old days you could understand the choice of others to be Republican, but it's hard when they are offering a constitutional amendment against us. I do know a couple of Republicans I am very fond of, but I would bet that they are ashamed of assholes like Kippy carrying their mantle.

Nonetheless, I am glad I don't live in a red state and hope I never do.

Now, now, Nellies-- save your pity for those with poor taste. After all, as members of gay community we pride ourselves on showing our diversity. Here's our big chance!

I know you will never understand this, no matter how long you live, but going around thinking that your beliefs are the Only Right Ones - and that anyone who sees things differently than you do is either stupid or psychologically ill -- is a BIG REASON why liberals are so disliked in this country and why you keep losing and losing.

A true sign of psychological illness - not to mention cognitive defect - is for someone to be incapable of seeing the world in any way other than the narrow, rigid way that they see it - or, to put it another way, to think that anyone who thinks differently than you do is sick or dumb or both.

So keep running around telling everyone who disagrees with you that they are sick and pitiful. That will only depeen your own despair and misery and repeated failure.

In case you didn't notice, Bush and Kerry's position on gay issues were virutally identical. Kerry himself said that.

You are just trying to force people to embrace your political agenda by telling them that their sexual orientation - or their race - compels them to accept your political agenda. That tactic is as corrupt and manipulative as it is transparent, and it's one of many reasons why you find yourself- yet again - on the losing end of things, more confused and bitter than ever.

Lawyers are heading out to Ohio to demand a fair count.

I have a "friend" who is gay and republican. I have had many discussions with him and when ever he is backed into a corner, with a logical argument that he can't respond to, he just says, the world has changed since 9-11, and the war on terroism is the most important thing to us. ect.. you have heard them all! I call them Rush Limbaughism's.. but could also be charactorized as Sean Hannityism!

I personally listen to some conservative talk shows during the day at work, I am very independent and lean liberal. However, I can see some of the points that conservatives make, I understand some of their reasoning on some issues. However, I would not vote for GWB. My friend on the other hand is completely closed to all ideas outside of his political GWB world. He was upset about Tereza telling a reporter to shove it but was in awe that Cheney told someone to go Fuck themselves, because women aren't supposed to act that way!

It is like speaking to a parrot! He doesn't think only parrot the thoughts of right wing conservatives. I am not by any means a great writer, however, when it comes to debating I can hang in there with the best of them, and all the conservatives I speak to are the same. the same tag lines and they totally believe lies told by Bush and Cheney that were proved over and over again to be lies but they believe.

I personally think that GWB won due to scaring the american people with lies!

The problem facing Kerry is that Bush has won the popular vote by more than 3% and achieved an overall plurality, the first time for a winning Presidential candidate since 1988. So even if Kerry took Ohio, he would not have the popular vote. How much of a mandate is that?

I think it is time for people to realize that Bush and the Republicans have won. Clearly, this is what the American people want. While disappointed, I can deal with that.On the gay issue, I was interested in Bush's statement in the last weeks of the campaign when he said that he was not opposed to gay rights for couples. Not the whole nine yards but at least not caving to the extreme right of his party.

Let's look at it this way:

Bush will have so seriously fucked up this country by '08, if not sooner, that someone will be able to ride in on a white horse and save the day:

More taxes for the domestic issues ignored for the last six years will be a welcome occurance. Under the current plan taxes only serve two purposes; funneling dollars to a war machine that has chewed up and spit out 2800 Americans and 150,000 Iraqis, and shoveling the discretionery dollars straight to the Haliburton retirement fund of little-dicked, big-cats.

I agree and am so glad (but a little surprised) that the majority saw through what seemed to be the main battle cry of the repubs this year, "they'll raise your taxes!!!".

I'd say that easily far more Americans are worried about the state of health care in the US and the future of social security than are truly worried about about a bit more in taxes. The trick is to make sure that all the taxes the repubs striped from the rich don't get placed squarely back on the middle class.

Plus there'll be a hell of a lot more money for domestic social programs the sooner we get out of Iraq (though I must wonder how we do it without leaving it a clusterfuck to fester into something worse, like Afghanistan did last time we left it and is already on it's way to doing again...).

I'd say this quote sums the situation up, and I'm happy to have reason to believe our democracy might survive a bit longer--for the first time in years:
