Well lemmings, on the front page of the Boston Globe today in big bold letters, Kerry favors amending the Mass constitution to prohibit gay marriage as long as it permits civil unions. Let's see. Buch favors an amendment to the US constitution for the same prohibition, and says that the states, in their discretion, can permit civil unions. Pretty darn close.

Never too good for a group to vote in lock-step with one political party. You tend to get taken for granted. Kinda like the religious right with Reagan and the Bushes. Better a NASCAR dad than an HRCF Board member.

And boy, with guts like this, I can certainly see Kerry tackling "Don't ask, don't tell."

Later.

PS. If the Democrats are going to follow the Republicans on the defining gay issues of the day, all things considered, I'd rather have lower taxes.

It's not close at all. There's a HUGE difference. Bush is a Republican, and therefore his support for an anti-gay amendment means that he wants to re-create Auschwitz for gay people and gas us all.

Kerry, by contrsat, is a (whisper with reverence) Democrat. This means that he is all good and loving and that his support for the amendment means nothing other than the fact that he is doing whatever he has to in order to become President so that he can spread equality and love and justice everywhere and for everyone.

Don't know you know anything?

I don't know what it is that has caused you to crawl out of your K hole and close up your hole for a few days so that you can post in this section, but you will soon see, if you haven't already, that the sort of logic and consistency which you invoked with this post is like an exotic foreign language around here which few people will comprehend.

They don't speak in resaon or language, only in mantras:

Shrubya is evil.

Democrats are good.

It's all about Halliburton.

Good luck trying to promote notions which fall outside of these sadly suffocating confines. You may want to consider re-opening your hole for business very quickly.

Shrubya is evil.

What's his stance on civil unions?

If the choice is between a man who is a political coward and wants no rights for gays at all (Shrubya) and someone who is being a political coward (Kerry) but endorses rights for gays, I'll take Kerry.

“On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered: Doctor.....WHO?????"

The 19th Century black version of BoN: "As a black man, between a politician who thinks I should be counted as 3/5 of a citizen, and one who thinks I should be counted as 4/5, I'll take the one who thinks I should be counted as 4/5."

Here's the difference.

George Bush needs to do some pandering to his base. His numbers are down. The Iraq war is becoming an embarrassment rather than the political advantage he thought it would be. So, endorsing the anti-marriage amendment is a way to gain political capital with the Krischun Right.

Kerry, however, does not support amending the United States Constitution. He supports the idea of civil unions which would allow US to have the same rights as heterosexual couples, just not calling it marriage. Seperate but equal? Does that make me Uncle Tom?

Gay marriage and equal rights for US will happen one day. It's a slow and inexorable process but it will happen. If it takes a step like civil unions to get us there, I'll suipport that, because it's a step, not the end.

Traveller no longer has enough connected synapses to comprehend the profound truth of this statement, but I’m glad you have seen the light. Our work here is done.
