The real story:

http://moveonvoterfund.org/smear/release.html

It is dumbfounding the way the 'vast right-wing hypocrisy' can go apocalyptic about things like MoveOn and the donations they've gotten while at the same time withholding things like the attendance list of Cheney’s energy policy meetings. Maybe he's withholding it because he's not sure which is which, the list of people who decided regulation and oversight for the energy industry vs. the list of donors from the energy industry...

THESE are the final 15 'Bush in 30 seconds' pieces:

http://www.bushin30seconds.org

Which do you like?

I think Child's Pay will probably win. It has a good message and the best production values. Polygraph, Bring 'Em On, and Human cost are very similar, but I'd like to see at least one of that message run as well. Hood Robbing, Bankrupt, Bush's Repair Shop, and Wake Up America seem good, but could've been better executed, as could Imagine and In My Country--both great messages but not quite as impactful as needed. What Are We Teaching our Children and Leave no Billionaire Behind are cute, though the later is very similar in message to Child's Pay. Army of One would be great in conservative and military areas! Didn't care for Desktop or Gone in 30 Seconds.

I think the most import thing they could do is pay to run these (several of them) in *each* state the month before it's too late to register to vote in the election, maybe extend them with a wrapper with the info on how to register that drives home it's up to the people, especially those that aren't involved but are finally becoming concerned.

Good point!

"Contrast this {these *free submissions* comparing Bush with Hitler} with the behavior of the RNC and its allies when supporters of President Bush used TV ads morphing the faces of Sens. Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Max Cleland (D-GA) into that of Osama Bin Laden during the 2002 Senate races."

The same Max Cleland, who despite having been disabled fighting for his country was portrayed as unpatriotic and afraid to fight, loosing to yet another Republican chicken hawk who's never served (this particular one didn't even serve briefly in the Texas Air National Guard and then go AWOL...).

But I'm sure the corporate interests that paid for those slick and entirely deceptive ads against Cleland didn't expect anything back once their boy was in office...

RE: Hitler

I was listening(something the rightwing blowhards cannot do for some reason)to an author(used to be on CBS-now a comentator on an HBO sports program)-Bernard Goldberg on our local npr station(kpcc)talking about how the left has no sense of decorum or decency when it comes to discussing our repuplican leaders.

Then in a very nice tone he commented on the video which" calls Bush a Nazi"

Nowhere in the video(which is taken from something I heard Marc Cooper read about a year ago)is Bush called a Nazi.Rather the filmmaker calls attention to the similiarities in the rise of Adolph Hitler and the rise of the Bush regime. And it is pretty spot on IMO.But it make for much bigger spin when a neocon LIES and TAKES THINGS OUT OF CONTEXT rather than stating facts,

But they can do that in a warm and civil(if only slightly condescending)tone.

My call to the radio station was not put on air,I have had problems with this beforew and have withdrawn my membership(and I let them know why)and gave kfbk the money instead.

RE: Hitler

Nice!! If I don't directly state that you are a Nazi, but I say that your policies are just like Hitler, your legislative programs are just like Hitler, your judicial actions are just like Hitler, your policing is just like Hitler, etc, then I am not saying that you are a Nazi. Does not make any sense. You are really reaching to make that judgement.

RE: Hitler

on the way home from lex. i was listening to michael gallegar(sp)on the radio,he's a right wing nut radio spin meister.

at any rate he prepped a tape he was going to play.....by asking the audience what it reminded them of........he then went on to play a tape that was a rally for DEAN. rob reiner was leading the chant by saying howard and the people at the rally would respond with dean,ie:howard.....dean howard.......dean,etc.well the asswipe galleger(sp) then started playing a tape of a hitler rally where the people were chanting ......seig.........heil..........seig.......heil.

he went on to say that howard dean and his followers reminded him of hitler, and continued to play both tapes.personally i don't really give a shit what those "people" (right wing nuts) think ,but it did reinforce my belief that they are a group of hypocrites.

>i

>think . . . .

That's a rather odd thing for someone to say after they just got done explaining at some length that they were riding in the car listening to right-wing radio and recounting the discussion which the right-wing host had. That would be similar to coming to this forum and reading the posts here and then saying you don't give a shit what whores and their "clients" think.

And if you want to talk about hypocrisy, you may some day want to evalute how the Left always shrieks and whines whenever they think someone is "questioning their patriotism" - and then compare those cries to almost daily suggestion that Bush is deliberately destroying America because is doesn't give a shit about this country.

The funniest thing is that it's the Republicans who are going out of their way to publicize it as much as possible whenever leftists start using the Hitler/Nazi analogy to try to smear Bush.

And you know why the Republicans publicize this? Because this sort of rhetoric makes the vast majority of the electorate sick to their stomach, and makes opponents of Bush look ugly, petty, hateful, and deranged. Martin Sheen and Barbra Streisand may think that Bush is Hitler, but most Americans - including those that are straddling the fence - think that this is a truly idiotic and childish comparison.

But the types who spew this Bush/Hitler bile don't learn. They're more interested in lashing out at their daddy who doesn't love them (Bush) than they are in winning elections. So they just continue their freak show and keep providing fodder for the GOP machine by engaging in these sorts of ridiculous attacks on Bush.

"Bush is Hitler" - yeah, there's a real winning election slogan for 2004.

RE: Hitler

This is one of the few occasions I agree with doug. If you're going to criticise Bush, fatuous comparisons with Hitler are a big turn-off and actually don't say anything anyway.

Whereas, returning to the theme of this thread, a couple of the winning anti-Bush commercials are quite punchy. The winning entry, for example, is a good one: one message, well presented, based on one important aspect of the Bush economic policy. Not so sure about a couple of the others (the allusions are lost on this foreigner), but they're all pretty good.

I always find it ironic that American conservatives preach the importance of fiscal responsibility - and then blow out the budget in a huge way. The consensus down under is that the reason our economy has largely outperformed the rest of the world for the last 7 years of continuous growth (even during the Asian recession and SARS) is that we've had a balanced budget for all that time thanks to our conservative government.

RE: Winning MoveOn Video

I agree that the winning MoveOn.org spot is very well done. It's professional, effectively uses the images and music to get its point across and isn't nearly as strident (or misleading) as some of the other finalists. I might argue slightly with the deficit projection, but why quibble--they may be right. I'm worried about the deficit too.

I think it will get people's attention.
